If you’ve been researching treatments for fine lines, uneven texture, pigmentation, acne scars or generally tired-looking skin, you’ve probably come across two similar-sounding terms: microneedling and microchanneling.

They’re often discussed together, but they are not exactly the same.

At Bloom Beauty Studio, Iwona offers Procell Microchanneling, an advanced skin-rejuvenation treatment designed to support the skin’s natural renewal process while targeting a variety of common skin concerns.

So what makes microchanneling different?

What Is Microchanneling?

Microchanneling creates thousands of tiny, controlled microchannels in the skin. These temporary channels stimulate the skin’s natural renewal response and allow specialized Procell serums to be applied to the treated area. Procell describes this process as supporting cellular renewal and collagen production.

The Procell device works using a precise stamping motion. Instead of moving the device sideways across the skin, the treatment creates controlled channels by moving directly up and down.

Procell’s practitioner protocol specifically instructs providers to use a repeating stamping technique and not to drag or scratch the device across the skin.

So How Is That Different From Microneedling?

The biggest difference is the treatment technique.

Traditional microneedling devices are often moved across the surface of the skin during treatment.

Procell Microchanneling instead uses a controlled linear stamping method to create evenly spaced channels without dragging the treatment tip across the skin. Procell’s own educational materials describe this as one of the primary distinctions between microchanneling and traditional microneedling.

That may sound like a small difference, but the way the skin is treated is one of the reasons Iwona chose to offer Procell Microchanneling at Bloom Beauty Studio.

What Skin Concerns Can Microchanneling Address?

One of the reasons microchanneling is such a versatile treatment is that it can be customized around different skin concerns.

Depending on your skin and treatment plan, microchanneling may help improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Loss of firmness
  • Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone
  • Sun damage
  • Acne scars and other visible scarring
  • Dull or aging-looking skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Certain body-area concerns

Procell practitioner materials include treatment applications for fine-to-moderate wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, brightening, tightening and preventative aging treatments.

And microchanneling is not necessarily limited to the face. Procell guidance also references treatment of the neck, décolleté, body and scalp, depending on the individual concern.

What Happens During a Procell Microchanneling Treatment?

Before treatment begins, Iwona will talk with you about the areas you would like to improve and determine whether microchanneling is appropriate for your skin.

Your skin is then cleansed and prepared for treatment.

The Procell device is used in small sections with a controlled stamping motion. After the microchannels are created, the appropriate Procell Microchannel Delivery Serum is applied to the treated area.

Because every person’s skin and goals are different, treatment depth, areas treated and the overall treatment plan may vary.

What About the Serums?

Microchanneling isn’t just about creating microchannels.

Procell treatments are designed to work together with specialized serums containing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, peptides and growth-factor-related ingredients.

Your aftercare also plays an important role in supporting the skin following treatment.

Beginning at least 24 hours after treatment, Procell’s current instructions allow use of its Step 1 Cellular Renewal Serum and Step 2 Healing Accelerator Serum as part of the recommended post-treatment routine.

Iwona will explain exactly what she recommends for your skin after your appointment.

Is There Downtime?

Every person’s skin responds differently, but some temporary redness, warmth, tightness, sensitivity or a mild sunburn-like appearance can occur following microchanneling.

Your skin needs a little extra care immediately afterward.

Procell’s current aftercare guidance recommends avoiding makeup directly on the treated area for at least 24 hours and avoiding things such as vigorous exercise, excessive heat, swimming and unprotected direct sun exposure during the initial recovery period.

You will receive aftercare instructions following your treatment.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

There isn’t one number that is right for everyone.

Someone looking for general rejuvenation may have very different needs from someone treating acne scars, pigmentation, visible signs of aging or another more specific concern.

Your treatment plan should depend on:

Your skin condition
Your primary concern
The area being treated
The degree of improvement you’re hoping to achieve
How your skin responds to treatment

Iwona can recommend an appropriate plan after evaluating your skin.

Why Does the Practitioner Matter?

Technology is only part of the treatment.

The person performing it needs to understand the skin in front of them, recognize areas that require different attention and determine how the treatment should be customized.

Iwona Garwacki brings more than two decades of professional aesthetic experience and more than 10 years of experience offering Procell Microchanneling to her clients.

At Bloom Beauty Studio, microchanneling isn’t treated as a one-size-fits-all procedure.

Your treatment begins with a conversation about your skin, your concerns and what you would like to improve.

Microchanneling or Microneedling: Which Is Right for Me?

Rather than choosing a treatment because of its name, start by thinking about what you would actually like to change about your skin.

Are you concerned about:

Fine lines?

Sun damage?

Pigmentation?

Acne scars?

Uneven texture?

Loss of firmness?

Or do you simply want your skin to look healthier and more refreshed?

Those are the questions worth discussing with an experienced skincare professional.
